Terbium(III) chloride hexahydrate Powder TbCl3 · 6H2O, CAS 13798-24-8
Terbium(III) chloride hexahydrate (TbCl3 · 6H2O) is a white crystalline powder with the chemical formula TbCl3 · 6H2O. It is a hydrated salt of terbium and chloride ions.
Terbium(III) chloride hexahydrate is used as a raw material for the production of other terbium compounds, and as a dopant in the production of phosphors for lighting and display applications. It is also used in the preparation of various ceramic materials and in some organic synthesis reactions.
In addition to its industrial applications, terbium(III) chloride hexahydrate has some potential medical uses. It has been studied for its potential as a contrast agent in medical imaging, particularly for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and has been shown to have good imaging properties in some preclinical studies.

Application
Terbium Chloride has an important role as an activator for green phosphors used in color TV tubes, is also used in special lasers, and is a dopant in solid-state devices. Chloride compounds can conduct electricity when fused or dissolved in water. Terbium "green" phosphors (which fluoresce a brilliant lemon-yellow) are combined with divalent europium blue phosphors and trivalent europium red phosphors to provide the "trichromatic" lighting technology which is by far the largest consumer of the world's terbium supply. Trichromatic lighting provides much higher light output for a given amount of electrical energy than does incandescent lighting. It is also used in alloys and in the production of electronic devices.
