Neodymium oxide powder (Nd2O3) is a light purple powder that is commonly used as a raw material for the production of other neodymium compounds, such as neodymium metal, neodymium fluoride, and neodymium nitrate.
Neodymium oxide is insoluble in water, but soluble in acids. It has a high melting point of 2,232 °C and a high thermal conductivity, making it useful in high-temperature applications. It is also used as a pigment in ceramics, glass, and other materials, and as a component in the production of solid-state lasers.
Neodymium oxide powder should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from heat sources and incompatible materials. Proper protective equipment, such as gloves and safety goggles, should be worn when handling this material.

Applications
Neodymium Oxide, also called Neodymium, is mainly used for glass and capacitors. Colors glass delicate shades ranging from pure violet through wine-red and warm gray. Light transmitted through such glass shows unusually sharp absorption bands. The glass is used in astronomical work to produce sharp bands by which spectral lines may be calibrated. Glass containing neodymium is a laser material in place of ruby to produce coherent light.
