Lanthanum(III) chloride (LaCl3) is a white crystalline powder with the chemical formula LaCl3. It is a salt of lanthanum and chloride ions.
Lanthanum(III) chloride is used as a raw material for the production of other lanthanum compounds, and as a dopant in the production of optical fibers and phosphors for lighting and display applications. It is also used in the preparation of certain ceramic materials and in the synthesis of some organic compounds.
In addition to its industrial applications, lanthanum(III) chloride has some potential medical uses. It has been studied for its potential as a contrast agent in medical imaging, particularly for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and has been shown to have good imaging properties in some preclinical studies.
