Scandium oxide powder (Sc2O3) is a white, odorless powder that is commonly used as a raw material for the production of other scandium compounds, such as scandium metal, scandium fluoride, and scandium nitrate.
Scandium oxide is insoluble in water, but soluble in acids. It has a high melting point of 2,325 °C and a high thermal conductivity, making it useful in high-temperature applications. It is also used as a dopant in the production of solid-state lasers, as a component in the production of high-strength aluminum alloys, and as a catalyst in various chemical reactions.
Scandium oxide powder should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from heat sources and incompatible materials. Proper protective equipment, such as gloves and safety goggles, should be worn when handling this material.

Application
Scandium Oxide is applied in optical coating, catalyst, electronic ceramics, and laser industry. It is also used annually in making high-intensity discharge lamps. A high melting white solid is used in high-temperature systems (for its resistance to heat and thermal shock), electronic ceramics, and glass composition. Suitable for vacuum deposition applications.
