Gadolinium Fluoride Powder (GdF3), CAS No 13765-26-9

Gadolinium Fluoride (GdF3) Powder is a compound composed of the rare earth metal gadolinium and the halogen fluorine. It is a white, odorless powder that is insoluble in water but soluble in acids.

GdF3 powder has various applications in fields such as optics, electronics, and catalysis. For instance, it can be used as a scintillator material for radiation detection, as a host material for phosphors in LED lighting, and as a catalyst for various chemical reactions.

In the field of medicine, gadolinium fluoride can also be used as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. The compound is injected into the patient's bloodstream before the scan, and its magnetic properties allow for clear images of the body's internal structures.

It is important to note that, as with all gadolinium-based contrast agents, there is a risk of adverse effects in some patients, particularly those with kidney problems. As such, the use of GdF3 powder in medical applications should be carefully monitored and evaluated by trained medical professionals.

Application

Gadolinium Fluoride is used for making optical glass and dopant for Gadolinium Yttrium Garnets which have microwave applications. Gadolinium is used for making Gadolinium Yttrium Garnet, it has microwave applications and is used in the fabrication of various optical components and as substrate material for magneto-optical films. It is used for making Gadolinium Yttrium Garnet (Gd:Y3Al5O12); it has microwave applications and is used in the fabrication of various optical components and as substrate material for magneto-optical films. Gadolinium Gallium Garnet (GGG, Gd3Ga5O12) was used for imitation diamonds and for computer bubble memory. It can also serve as an electrolyte in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs).
