Cerium Hexaboride Cathode, CeB6 Cathode

Cerium Hexaboride Cathode, CeB6 Cathode

Cerium hexaboride (CeB6) cathode is a type of cathode made of cerium hexaboride, a rare earth metal boride compound. CeB6 cathodes are commonly used in electron beam guns, electron microscopes, and other vacuum-based technologies where a high-brightness, long-lasting electron source is required.

CeB6 cathodes have a low work function, which means that they require less energy to emit electrons. This results in a brighter electron beam, making CeB6 cathodes ideal for high-resolution imaging applications. Additionally, CeB6 cathodes have a longer lifespan than traditional tungsten filaments, reducing maintenance and replacement costs.

CeB6 cathodes can be produced using various methods, including powder metallurgy, chemical vapor deposition, and hot pressing. The resulting cathodes are highly pure and uniform in composition, ensuring consistent performance and reliability.

Cerium Hexaboride Description

Cerium Boride, also called Cerium Hexaboride or CeB6, is a refractory ceramic material. It has a low work function and one of the highest electron emissivity known, and is stable in a vacuum. Therefore, the principal use of cerium hexaboride is a coating of hot cathodes, or hot cathodes made of cerium hexaboride crystals. Cerium boride cathode usually operates at a temperature of 1450 °C because it shows a lower evaporation rate at 1427℃ than lanthanum boride, but it becomes equal at 1577℃ and higher above that.
